About Us

Sputtering Materials, Inc., a leader in the sputtering materials and bonding services industry, was the first company devoted strictly to metallic bonding of sputtering target materials. As founder and CEO of SMI, Cliff is an entrepreneur with an extensive background in vacuum technology and thin film applications. Cliff has an extensive background in research and development, for example he designed and built high vacuum processing equipment and developed Argon ion laser systems. More importantly, he developed a revolutionary new target bonding process that surpasses all known metallic bonding technology. SMI works with each customer to create solutions that match or exceed customer needs.

Facility

SMI’s 20,000 sq. ft, state-of-the-art technology center was designed and built by Clifford C. Purdy II in 1997 for high volume target assembly and bonding production.

The facility is equipped with the most advanced target and specialty bonding equipment in the industry.

SMI utilizes C-scan equipment to thoroughly examine and verify bond integrity.
